PERSONAL INJURY

If you have been injured in a car accident that was someone else's fault, you may be entitled to recover for your out-of-pocket expenses as well as pain and suffering.  We are experienced at evaluating these cases and doing everything possible to maximize the recovery you receive.  To assure you get a full recovery, there is a lot more involved than just" get in a wreck, get a check."  This includes involving you are being seen by the proper doctors, that your bills are managed, that you do not resolve your case before you know what the future is going to be like and a whole host of case management issues.

MEDICAL CARE

Perhaps the most important thing in these cases is to assure you are communicating well with your physician.  The medical evidence is the key to these cases.  We will sit down and teach you how to be effective at this communication.  For example, it is important to tell your doctor about the worst you have been since the last time you saw them.  Otherwise, those problems you have had since the last appointment won't get properly documented.

THINGS TO DO FIRST

You will want to locate a copy of your insurance policy.  Whether you have purchased collision coverage, uninsured motorist coverage and medical payments coverage will be important to getting your vehicle repaired, obtaining a rental, assuring a recovery even if the at-fault  driver is uninsured and getting your medical bills paid.  If you have health insurance, of course you can get your medical bills paid that way, but your health insurer will assert the right to get reimbursed.

Take pictures of your vehicle's damage and, if possible, damage to the at-fault driver's vehicle.  Look for damage away from the obvious such as changes in the door seams away from the point of impact, damage underneath the vehicle, damage inside the vehicle as well as to contents.  If you have injuries that are visible such as scarring, casts and surgical scarring, swelling and bruising, etc., get pictures now and continue to take pictures as the injury develops or heals.  Document the date and time of the picture.  If there are important features at the scene of the collision such as what can be seen from a particular vantage point or skid marks and debris on the roadway take appropriate pictures.  With the ability to take virtually free digital pictures, there is no excuse for not taking lots of pictures from all angles and ranges.  Once your car is fixed, your injuries heal and skid marks fade, it is impossible to recreate this important evidence.

Even if it is critical to getting your vehicle fixed or obtaining a rental car, you should refrain from giving a recorded statement to any insurance company, especially if you are thinking of obtaining counsel to assist you.  Insurance carrier adjusters are very skilled at getting information from you and you will always be at a disadvantage.  An experienced attorney can prepare you for the questions and help guide you through the process.
